It all started with a baseball.
Scoops opened in Bloomington in 1994 — and the way it came to be still feels like fate. Owners Mark and Heidi Wavinak were at their son's game at Dred Scott Field when Mark made him a deal: hit one into the outfield, and we'll go out for ice cream. Minutes later, the ball sailed deep into right field. The only catch? Bloomington didn't have an ice cream shop yet.
That winter, their son brought home a school assignment to design a make-believe ice cream shop — called, of all things, "Scoops." When Mark and Heidi found a spot across from Dred Scott with the exact dimensions from his drawing, they knew. Scoops was meant to be.
Three decades later, we're still serving the best ice cream, service, and atmosphere in the Twin Cities — and still finding new ways to bring the community together, from summer afternoons to our legendary Midnight Scoops celebration. It's more than a scoop shop. It's Bloomington's.
