It all started with a baseball.
A family-owned parlor that's been serving the best ice cream in the Twin Cities since 1994 — born and raised right here in Bloomington.
It was fate.
Scoops began as an idea in the heads of owners Mark and Heidi Wavinak after their son had a baseball game at Dred Scott Field in Bloomington. When their son came up to bat, the crowd let out a collective sigh. To buck him up, Mark made a deal: "If you hit a ball into the outfield, we'll take you out for ice cream."
Minutes later, their son hit the ball deep into right field. The only problem? At the time, there wasn't an ice cream shop in Bloomington — and the Wavinaks wanted good ice cream.
A homework assignment, made real.
That fall, their son came home from school with an assignment: design a scale layout for a made-up ice cream shop. He called it "Scoops." Later that winter, Mark and Heidi found a spot across the street from Dred Scott with the exact dimensions of their son's drawing. They knew it was meant to be.
It started as a 10-year plan. Bringing ice cream to Bloomington gave high schoolers in Bloomington and Eden Prairie a fun place to work each summer, gave teams somewhere to cool off after a game across the street, and gave families and friends a place to gather over a treat. But the roots we've grown in this community just keep going deeper.

Three decades on, we're still growing and still finding new ways to bring the Twin Cities together over ice cream — from summer afternoons to our legendary Midnight Scoops celebration. We're having more fun than ever.
As Bloomington's staple dessert destination, Scoops keeps doing exactly what we set out to do back in 1994: bring the community the best ice cream, the best service, and the best atmosphere in the Twin Cities.
